Artist Bio:
Werner Haker was born in Hamburg, Germany. He spent his childhood in New York City. And at age 17, he apprenticed as draftsman with Manuel Pauli, a leading architectural firm in Zurich, Switzerland. Later, he received a diploma from the School of Applied Arts, Zurich. The Manuel Pauli apprenticeship was the foundation for a lifelong commitment to architecture and art.
Between 1965 and 1972, Haker served internships with Philip Johnson, Architect, New York City, and with various Zurich firms. And between 1970 and 1974, he traveled extensively, studying art and architecture in Italy, Greece, Turkey, India, Japan and Brazil.
In architecture, Haker won transatlantic esteem as practitioner, innovator, and teacher. From 1974 to 1985, he was Senior Lecturer for Architectural Design in the Department of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich Switzerland. During academic year 1994-1995, he was Guest Professor in the School of Design of North Carolina State University, Raleigh.
Werner Haker has been living in Brevard, NC since 1995 where he has established residence. In 2003 he designed and built a new home with studios for his wife and himself. He has been a full time artist since 2001 then and has been exhibiting regularly since then..
