This is how we “Du” it!

Our first annual Dig the Du event on Sunday, October 9th was a tremendous success.

We were striving for 100 registered runners, and were overwhelmingly surprised (and thankful) with actually having 168 registered participants on race day! We had great community support for this event through participants, volunteers and sponsors.

The first ever ‘Dig the Du’ raised over $8,000 to be split between French Broad River Academy and OpenDoors of Asheville that will help us achieve our missions; which both support local children’s education and enrichment. We received fantastic racer and volunteer feedback that overwhelmingly asked us to “Du it again!”

To illustrate the day, one racer posted this mental snapshot on our Facebook,

“Basking in afterglow at the finish. Standing atop a sun sprinkled mountain, after a splendid 2 hour workout with a hard-earned beer surrounded by like minded fools.”

Beyond raising funds, we expanded our community that serves local youth, and gave our OpenDoors students a chance to work and play in the beautiful WNC mountains.

We look forward to next year’s 2nd Annual Dig the Du, slated for Sunday, October 14th, 2012 and hope everyone will consider sponsorship, volunteering or participating as a racer in this unique WNC event.

We are accepting sponsorships at this time. Please contact Jen Ramming at jramming@opendoorsasheville.org
