Artist in the Spotlight–Cindy Walton

“Working with Cindy Walton has been a joy.  She is always eager to give.  She is an ‘of course!’ person,” describes OpenDoors Art Chair, Kristan Dewey.  This year will mark Cindy’s 5th year donating to the OpenDoors Art Affair.

Cindy creates her colorful abstractions using the venerable cold-wax method with oils.  She is also a respected teacher of this demanding medium.  In fact, Cindy is teaching a sold out workshop in Asheville this weekend, January 27-29th.  To find out more about her workshops and exhibits, her current artwork, and to follow her blog, visit www.cindywalton.com.  For an additional chance to see her work, she will be in a group show at the Upstairs Gallery in Tryon called Abstract Expeditions: Artists Redefine the Landscape starting March 24, 2017.

This year’s piece for Art Affair, titled “Tiempo,” is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  It is a 24×24 oil and cold wax on panel offered for $1400.

“OpenDoors is a great organization.  Through their work with children at such critical times, they are helping our community.  Because I am not able to volunteer much of my time, I have found that by donating to the Art Affair I can make a difference and support my community,” explains Cindy.

Thank you, Cindy, for your generosity and continued support of OpenDoors and the kids that we serve!  View our growing list of 2017 Auction Items here.

“Each One, Teach One” is an African proverb that originated in the United States during slavery when Africans were denied education. When someone learned how to read or write, it became their responsibility to teach someone else. The idea is to spread knowledge for the betterment of your community.”

OpenDoors provides student access to the deep outdoors, providing peace of mind, improved health, and points of reference for learning in an increasingly complicated world. Thanks to our partners @pivotpointwnc for another smooth program launch. ⛰

We have deep love, respect, and gratitude for our ODA families. We are privileged to continue this work, and have mixed emotions in moments like these, where our middle school student is accessing these mountains from the Blue Ridge Parkway for the very first time. Please spend your day in service and consider MLK JR’s 6 principles of nonviolent change making (Link in bio)
