Connor’s 100 Miles– A Benefit for OpenDoors

WHEN: June 19th & 20th, 2020

WHERE: 100 miles beginning in Mills River, NC mostly on the Mountains To Sea Trail

WHY: Connor’s goal is to raise $100k to help local students break the cycle of poverty through education. All funds raised will benefit OpenDoors’ To & Through College Access program.

We are so excited and proud to announce that local rising senior, Connor Mailander, 17, will be running 100 miles in support of OpenDoors students! “I’m doing it because one, I love running, and two, if I’m going to run 100 miles I should do something good with it.”

All funds raised from Connor’s GoFundMe campaign will benefit our To & Through College Access Program. Within this program, our goal is to ensure that every OpenDoors student goes To & Through college, graduating with little or no debt. As a result of COVID-19, our families are more challenged than ever with basic needs like food security, personal safety, and stable housing. Scarcity compounded with the challenges of remote learning creates significant barriers. Thanks to committed supporters like you, OpenDoors provides aid for tuition, nutrition, housing, transportation, books, tutoring, laptops, school-based advocacy, and more. Through our longtime relationships and by connecting students with an individualized network of support, our kids are breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves, and for generations to come.

In Connor’s words, “OpenDoors supports kids. They support low income families and they help try to break the education barrier. To me it seems like they are really invested in the kids’ lives and they make sure every step of the way they have somebody who is there for them and wants to help them. Education truly is the real ultra-marathon!”
