It is the policy of OpenDoors Asheville to run a background check on all volunteers. By signing below, you are giving permission to OpenDoors Asheville to run and hold a copy of your background check. You are also acknowledging that you may be rejected or terminated from the volunteer program if your background check is deemed unacceptable to OpenDoors Asheville.
Information obtained as a result of a criminal background record check will be used only for the purposes of verifying volunteer criteria and will not be used to discriminate based upon race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, religion or age. An individual with a criminal record will not automatically be disqualified from volunteering with OpenDoors Asheville.
In the event the investigation reveals criminal record information, the information will be used on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the individual is qualified based on factors such as specific duties of the position; number of offenses; nature of offense; length of time intervening between the offense and the volunteer application decision; employment history; efforts at rehabilitation; and accuracy of the information that the individual provided on the volunteer application.
Criminal background information will be regarded as confidential as required by state and federal law and will not be released or disclosed to any unauthorized person.
Automobile Insurance/MVR Report
Certain volunteer positions at OpenDoors Asheville will require the use of personal automobiles.
By signing below you are acknowledging that if volunteering for a position requiring the use of your personal automobile, that OpenDoors Asheville will require the following:
-Proof of personal auto insurance at each policy renewal.
-Minimum coverage as stated below.
-Annual Motor Vehicle Record check to be run on any volunteer who transports students.
*The OpenDoors Asheville organization carries non-owned auto liability coverage through Great American Insurance that includes a $1,000,000 limit and covers employees and volunteers transporting clients using their own vehicle. This is liability only.
Volunteers providing transportation are required to carry adequate auto insurance with a minimum personal automobile insurance limit of $100,000/$300,000 and pass a DMV background check. OpenDoors also suggests a small personal “umbrella” liability policy.
I acknowledge that I have read and agree to OpenDoors Asheville’s Background Check and Automobile Insurance/Motor Vehicle Records Report.
